This bears repeating: the pregnancy cannot exist without me, my body, my existence. The fetus needs my heart to beat to deliver the oxygenated blood that my lungs inhaled to my uterus and then to the placenta so that the pregnancy, too, may use oxygen for its physiologic processes.
