Why Feminism?

Feminism is the answer to the oppressive forces that uphold the patriarchy. It is the simple concept that people are people and all of us equal. Intersectional feminism rejects sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and all of the power structures designed to oppress people. We must burn down the patriarchy and rise anew from the ashes, building a better world with feminism.

Feminist Rising is an independent publication launched in January 2026 by me, Leah Torres, MD MS. I am an OB/Gyn who is fellowship-trained in Family Planning and I advocate for reproductive justice and basic human rights. I have practiced in a variety of places (CO, AL, PA, NM, UT, FL) and have read many books... and I am still learning. I know my whiteness and education convey privilege that my femaleness does not, and I am constantly working on self-improvement to become a better human. We should all strive to live and learn and grow and evolve, and I hope what I share here can help others to do the same. I cite my sources and hope you are willing and able to share knowledge with others.
